Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence and AI-Supported Technologies
1. General Provisions
This Policy defines the ethical principles and technical boundaries for applying artificial intelligence (AI) systems throughout the preparation, peer-reviewing, and publication of scientific materials. The journal's editorial board acknowledges the potential of AI as a supporting tool; however, it emphasizes that its use cannot replace human intellectual contribution or diminish personal responsibility. This Policy is based on international standards (COPE, WAME, Elsevier) and Ukrainian legislation regarding academic integrity.
2. Areas of AI Application for Authors
2.1. Acceptable Use (Supportive Role)
Authors may use AI exclusively to perform technical and routine operations that enhance the quality of the research presentation:
- Linguistic support: grammar correction, stylistic editing, and text translation.
- Technical processing: structuring bibliographic lists, formatting the manuscript according to journal requirements, and organizing tables.
- Visualization: creating graphical diagrams, drawings, or processing images, provided the authenticity of the primary data is preserved.
- Analytical assistance: searching for relevant literature, generating ideas for the research structure, or the primary analysis of large datasets.
2.2. Unacceptable Use
Any application of AI that substitutes authorship or falsifies the scientific process is considered a gross violation of ethics:
- Content generation: creating entire sections or the full text of an article without the decisive involvement of the author.
- Data falsification: using AI to create fabricated empirical results, statistical indicators, or manipulating evidence.
- Fictitious citation: using AI-generated references to non-existent sources.
- Author status: AI tools cannot be listed as co-authors because they are incapable of bearing legal and ethical responsibility for the work.
3. Disclosure and Transparency Requirements
Transparency is a key condition for publication. Authors are obligated to declare the fact of AI usage regardless of the extent of its involvement:
- Location of declaration: Information is indicated in a special section titled "Use of AI" (or within the "Methods" or "Acknowledgments" sections).
- Content of declaration: It is necessary to specify the name of the tool, its version, the developer, and the specific purpose of its application.
- Confirmation of verification: Authors must describe the methods used to control the accuracy of generated content (e.g., expert fact-checking, repeated manual data analysis).
4. Responsibility and Sanctions
- Full responsibility: The use of AI does not exempt authors from responsibility for plagiarism, bias, or errors in the work.
- Consequences of violations: Concealing the fact of AI usage or the discovery of falsifications leads to immediate manuscript rejection, retraction of already published articles, and the informing of the institutions or organizations where the authors work.
- This policy is subject to regular review(at least once every two years) to adapt to the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
