BEHAVIORAL STRATEGIES OF COUNTRY TEACHERS IN HOLODOMOR OF 1932-1933 ON THE BASE OF KYIV AND CHERNIHIV LOCAL MEDIA

The article investigates the behavioral practices of country teachers in the course of Holodomor of 1932-1933. through the prism of the Kyivan and Chernihiv regional newspapers as a historical source which have a great information potential in this field. Despite the careful and strict ideological censorship by the district Communist party committees the content of the local medias reflects the main trends of the teacher intentions to the approaches of the central and regional authorities. The article is a first attempt to research the reaction of above-mentioned group of teachers to the authority’s ideological and political-economical campaigns directed to the formation of the mechanism of Holodomor. On the base of local media there are examined the following issues regarding the teachers’ everyday practices: the taking away of the grain, participation in the tug teams, agitation for execution the plan of the grain and of money credits for government, edition of the propagandist wallpapers, involvement the pupils to the realization of the authority’s plans. However the majority of country teachers didn’t transform into active executors of the Holodomor in the lower level. Everywhere the passive resistance was a main model of the teacher’s reaction for the demands of implementation the measures related to the killing by famine of the great groups of the Ukrainian farmers. There were the following kind of teacher’s resistance: the refusal to take part in tug teams and in the propagandist campaigns, the imitation of activity, the verbal denial of the reasonableness of the authority plans to exempt the grain and the money credit. In the single cases the teachers had been talking about the famine as a result of the confiscation of the grain.
