Transformation of the content of the «female issue» in French society in the middle of the XX century

Abstract

The main goal of this article is exploaring of transformation of the content of the «women’s question» in French society in the middle of the 20th century, since the problem of gender inequality in France remained relevant for a long time to come. Studying the main problems of women in the prewar and postwar periods has made it possible to determine: the role and place of women in the political and social life of France; the significance of the changes introduced in the legislation between the articles. The lack of voting rights over a long period in French society consolidated the various material and social status women. Before the Second World War women in France were unequal in their rights with men. Gender-related issues identified as «women’s issues» which contains a set of social issues that led to gender inequality and persisted discrimination in French society. In the middle of the XX century this topic transformed, but the provision of the right to vote and equalization of women with men in rights did not solve the conflict between the sexes and did not provide full protection of the women’s rights. Therefore, in addition to social problems, existed necessity to change traditional ideas about the place of women in the family, in society and to secure their rights. This type of relationships between the sexes, which established by previous generations, required the search for the causes of unequal women’s position in French society and the elimination of a complex of psychological, social, political and economic system of oppression. It took place a revision of the understanding of woman’s way of life in society, family and career. Understanding of female emancipation in society leads to a political self-determination of women who are beginning to overcome the existing barriers to self-realization in society and consolidate their forces to solve the social components of the «women’s issue».
