POLITICISATION OF THE UKRAINIAN NATIONAL MOVEMENT IN THE DNEPR REGION OF UKRAINE IN THE LATE 19th AND EARLY 20th CENTURIES: A HELPFUL RESOURCE FOR HISTORY TEACHERS

Abstract

The issue of the politicisation of the Ukrainian national movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries is extremely important for understanding the process of Ukrainian statehood formation. It was during this period that Ukrainian lands underwent a transition from cultural and educational activities to organised political struggle for national and social rights. The formation of Ukrainian political parties and the emergence of new ideologies and leaders marked the beginning of a qualitatively new stage of national revival.

The study of this topic is relevant not only in historical terms, but also in terms of civic education. Familiarising students with the political ideas of that time contributes to an understanding of the continuity of the Ukrainian state-building process, the development of national self-awareness, and the formation of an active civic position.

Studying the process of politicisation allows us to understand how the Ukrainian intelligentsia, workers and peasants began to shape political cul-ture and their own vision of Ukraine’s development, as well as what factors led to the creation of the first Ukrainian political parties. Research on this topic shows that the political ideas of the late 19th and early 20th centuries are still relevant today: they reflect the desire for freedom, justice, and equality. That is why understanding the politicisation of the Ukrainian national movement is not only historically valuable, but also an important element of contempo-rary education, shaping the understanding of the continuity of the Ukrainian state-building tradition.

In the current situation, when Ukraine continues to fight for its independence, territorial integrity and democratic development, looking back at the historical experience of the national movement is especially important. Analysing the political strategies and mistakes of the past helps to instil in the younger gen-eration a sense of responsibility for the fate of the state and an understanding of the importance of unity and political maturity in society.

Therefore, studying the politicisation of the Ukrainian national movement is a necessary condition for the formation of historical memory, patriotism and a deep understanding of the origins of Ukrainian statehood, especially in the context of the active phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
