THE CULTURE OF HOLOCAUST MEMORY IN DENMARK: A SOURCE-BASED ANALYSIS

Abstract

The article analyzes the source base for studying the formation of histori-cal memory of the Holocaust in Denmark. Methods of historiographical and comparative-historical analysis and generalization were used, which made it possible to classify the main groups of sources. The author adheres to the classification of sources by form. It is shown that different types of sources reproduce both the historical context of events and the dynamics of their interpretation in the public sphere.

The article proposes classifying sources according to their form: written, visu-al, verbal, and material. This allows us to trace the sources that characterize the main features of the formation of Denmark’s historical memory culture regarding these events.

The scientific novelty of the study lies in the systematization of disparate sources within a single methodological approach, which allows us to trace the relationship between historical experience, state political initiatives and the activity of public structures. It has been established that the culture of historical memory about the Holocaust in Denmark was formed as a result of the synthesis of humanistic values, political will, educational and cultural practices, which ensures its sustainable development and influence on the modern consciousness of citizens. The conclusions emphasize that the anal-ysis of the source base not only allows us to reconstruct historical events of the past, but also contributes to the understanding of their role in the formation of modern national identity and collective memory. The results obtained can become the basis for further interdisciplinary research in the fields of historical education, commemoration, museum work and cultural policy, in particular in the European context, which increases the practical value of the work for the academic community and educational institutions.
