The Transformation of Soviet-American Relations on the Final Stage of the Cold War (1985-1991)

This article analyzes the preconditions and main features of the improvement of the international situation during the final stage of the Cold War. There are revealed main changes in the foreign policy of both superpowers in the second half of the 1980s. There are considered data about the arms race in the United States and the Soviet Union, and the participation of the superpowers in the regional conflicts as one of the main indicators of the Cold War is summarized. In the article there were determined main stages of the evolution of relations between the USSR and the United States from tough confrontation to cooperation and completion of global confrontation. It is also determined that radical changes in US-SU relations occurred since 1988.
